SENIOR CAPSTONE STATEMENT OF INTENT
I have been a member of the Freedom High School Yearbook staff for three years. Sophomore year I was managing editor, Junior year I was Index Editor-In-Chief (along with 5 other EICs who had specialties, and we split responsibilities), and Senior year I am the only EIC. Yearbook has become a passion, and a lifestyle, over the past three years, and by creating this website I hope to make the process easier for the future staff and editors. When I started yearbook I knew nothing. It was all so overwhelming to me, and I would have loved to have something like this, made by a former yerd (yearbook nerd), to help me learn specifics.
I want to make sure that the tips and tricks that I have learned over the last three years are things that everyone knows right off the bat. The less time the staff and editors spend learning these things and how to organize the class, the more time they can spend designing and creating an award winning yearbook! Throughout the year, I have stepped up as a leader in the class, organized the structure of the class, managed deadlines, and I have taught new staff members, returning staff members, and a new advisor everything there is to know about yearbook. By creating this website that will include anything and everything that I know about yearbook, I hope to inspire future staff members and ensure that future advisors, staff members, and editors know how to do everything and have a place they can reference if they need help or have a question. As of now, there is nothing like this for the yearbook staff, and I believe that it would help tremendously with training the newbies and new editors for years to come.
I am familiar with everything that I will be documenting except for the business aspect. I will have to learn how ebusiness (the business program we use) works in order to put that information into the website. As well as creating this website to ensure that future editors and staff members have the easiest experience, I also plan to continue attending the yearbook class during the 3 weeks that I have off for capstone. During this time, the staff will be thinking of theme and design ideas for the next year, and I want to help make that transition as smooth as possible. Last year when I led the discussion and planning for this year, I did not have someone with more experience to guide me with the ideas because we started too late and the seniors had already left school. I want to create a smooth transition to the next EIC, editors, and staff members so that the basics are already in place. This year when we got a new advisor, I took over as the leader in the class and I prepared lessons and taught the newbies and advisor everything. It took a lot of time, and I do not want the future editors to have to do the same thing every year. Putting all of the tips and tricks on a website will be much easier for everyone to access and reference if they need help or have a question.
In college, I plan on joining either the yearbook or newspaper staff. By creating this, not only will I be enhancing my communication skills by describing in steps things that are second nature to me, I will also be creating a website that will be used as a reference guide for yearbooks and staffs in the future. After the yearbook from last year was chosen along with 69 other books for the NSPA Pacemaker Award out of the best 420 yearbooks in the nation, I knew that I wanted to do something to ensure that yearbooks from Freedom High School continued to receive this award. Everyone in the yearbook community knows which schools have a national reputation for having the best yearbook, and I want to do everything in my power to put Freedom High School on that list. This website will serve as a guide throughout the process of creating the yearbook so that staff members and editors will be able to spend more time creating the book and less time figuring out the logistics.

timeline
Soon after I get out of school for capstone, it will be delivery day and distribution day. These two events alone will consist of roughly 20 hours. I also plan on helping with planning for next year during the class period, which will be roughly be another 10 hours. Creating this website and putting together all of the documents, tutorials, and tips and tricks will take me around 60 hours.
