Applications and panel
Below is the application that has been used all 3 years I have done yearbook. It seems to work well, but if you want to add anything feel free! Make sure that the student body knows where they can get an application, and when the due date is. We usually make a video for the morning announcements for recruiting, and this year I put the folder with applications on the door of 603. Another thing that I did that seemed to work well, was sending an email to English teachers asking if they had anyone that was responsible, dedicated, passionate, etc. and that they thought would be a great addition to the staff. Personally writing and delivering those applications helped get a lot more in. Two years ago we had an information session after school one day, but only a few people came. Maybe try it before school, or hold something in the library one morning when people are getting ready to check out laptops. It is your responsibility to make yearbook something people want to be a part of. There should be an application because it should be a competitive selection process. Make sure and tweet or post things from work nights or fun times in class so that people see that yearbook is an environment that they want to join.
I have also attached the powerpoint that I have used for the past 2 years when giving the panel presentation to the journalism class. Usually there is a day where the newspaper and yearbook EICs or editors go to talk to the journalism class about recruiting for the next year. The powerpoint just includes talking points so that they listen to what you have to say. Remember, they don't need to know how to design or all the vocab or little details yet, they will figure that out if they take the class! Ask them questions at first to get an idea of what they already know because if you are just talking about what they already know, they will tune you out and not pay any attention and not want to join! When presenting, remember to be friendly and smile, people want to join an environment where they feel as though they will be valued and important.
