- Holding down the shift button and then moving the arrows moves packages faster.
- Drag down the rulers at the top of the spread to create invisible lines that will not print that can serve as guides for designing.
- Hold down shift and then drag the box to make it a perfect box.
- Hold down shift and then make a line to make a perfectly straight line.
- To create a happy box, zoom into one column and make a perfect box on the INSIDE purple lines of a column.
- Keep all packages one column or one happy box apart.
- People in pictures (at least dom ones) should always be looking at the copy.
- People in pictures should never be looking off of the spread unless they are looking at the copy.
- Always design from inspiration and make it apply to your theme and spread.
- Insert photo numbers last as they will get lost on the spread during redesign.
- The amount of column sizes that text boxes take up should always be the same within each package ie not one 3 column text box and one 4 column text box. They should either both be 3 or both be 4. Never exceed 6 columns.
- Subheads should be touching the headlines.
- Make sure full bleed pictures are really bleeding all of the way off and that you do not have more than 1 picture bleeding per page.
- After putting a picture in the box, double click it to adjust the location and zoom of the picture in the box.
- People should never be wearing white if you are doing a cutout of them and putting it on a white page.
- Nothing, NOTHING ever goes in the gutter (bleeding pictures are ok or pictures that go in the gutter are fine as long as there are no heads or photo numbers or text).
- Always make sure that when a spread is done being designed, and before you submit it, that there is no fill on the box. A hot pink outline can ruin a nice, dark picture.
- Make sure the folios are legible if there is a full bleed.
- Check your spread with the style sheet again, again, and again.
